PhD student computer science – specialization ‘visual computing’

Task description

In the context of extending its fundamental research through the BOF research fund of Hasselt University, the visual computing research group at EDM seeks to recruit a PhD scholarship student.
The research subjects of the visual computing research at EDM are very broad and are related to compressive sensing, light field cameras, 360-degrees and free viewpoint video, 3D shape reconstruction, reconstruction of light reflection properties, augmented reality, and high dynamic range imaging. The subject of the PhD scholarship will be determined together with the selected candidate.
EDM provides the successful candidate with a stimulating, dynamic and flexible work environment with young colleagues, a network with world class research laboratories in the field of visual computing in Belgium and abroad, the opportunity for research stays abroad, and an attractive scholarship allowance.

The successful candidates are naturally studious, able to work independently as well as in a team.
The successful candidates have obtained excellent study results and are strongly motivated for PhD research.
As the research in EDM is strongly software oriented, the successful candidate should have solid knowledge of and experience with software development (e.g., C++, C#).

Candidates should hold a master degree in an exact scientific discipline, with specialization in computer vision, computer graphics and/or image processing. Also students, who expect to graduate by the summer, are also warmly welcome to apply.

The successful candidate will receive a scholarship for a period of 2 years, which is extended with another period of 2 years after a positive midterm review (total duration is thus 4 years). The envisaged starting date of the scholarship is September 1st 2014.
